Gifts Without Paper and Bows

I spent my birthday last week in my old home town, and it was a lovely day. My childhood friend and my mother and I had coffee, lunch, and a walk about town.

The sun was shining, it was warm but not too hot. Here’s a little bit of what we found.

It still makes me smile.

A birthday rose, peeking through, just for me

Delicate clusters of fragrance, just for me

At first the cuteness seemed harmless; my guess is we looked tasty.

The “Go, away!” command was my mother.

I never tire of looking at the Clackamas River.

My mom is 87 and healthy. How many of us can say that? I am grateful for this each and every day.

My friend and I have known each other for 50 years. How many people can say they’ve had a childhood friend for 50 years? That the friendship has only grown stronger?

The three of us giggle like school children when we visit. Just like always.

I don’t need gifts with paper and bows.

Home is a lovely place to visit.

Happy belated Birthday Karenlee! Two things to make your day extra special: Your pink rose was a Peony (highly fragrant) and that little squirrel was a Momma (she had teets if you closely)! What a lovely day you had. Thank you for sharing with us.

THAT’S why something seemed off…there were too many folds. My “rose” is a Peony. Thanks for letting me know. And, we did not want to get too close to that squirrel…running straight for our ankles like that, made us run as well. 🙂 Thanks for commenting. How is life on the farmlet?

I only knew it was a Peony because they were my MIL’s favorite flowers. I got lucky when we moved here because I have several that were planted many years ago and still bloom each spring! (white, lt. pink and deep pink) Maybe you were to close to her nest?

Life is jumping here! Ergo, no recent posts… I must remedy that. 🙂
