Grandma’s box of clippings

When I’m missing grandma and want to feel her presence, I open her box of clippings for a glimpse of her heart. Among the booklets of prayer, meditation, poetry, and inspiration, I hear her through words of encouragement, relevant words.

Thoughts, found in a tiny book of poems, is one of my favorites.

THOUGHTS

by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

You never can tell what a thought will do

In bringing you hate or love;

For thoughts are things, and their airy wings

Are swifter than carrier doves.

They follow the law of the universe,

Each thing creates its kind,

And they speed o’er the track to bring you back

Whatever went out from your mind.

Thoughts are things.

They matter.

The type of energy we project–good or bad–comes back.

Do you agree?

She found it and kept it. You found it and are sharing it. We, are blessed by the finding and the sharing of it. My thoughts are clapping in glee. Firstly, I love rhythmic poems best. Secondly, I love words that have meaning. And thirdly, these words offer truth. Thoughts will either lift, or limit.

Thank you! I love to “see” that clapping. 🙂 As you stated, on several levels, this one hits home. It struck me and I kept thinking it over through the next few days. These snippets add so much depth. Thanks for reading. ❤

Oh, yes, I agree thoughts matter; and I copied the poem so I can keep it nearby to remind me. Both your grandmother and photograph are beautiful.

I like that it seems to go both ways. We can help ourselves and others. 🙂

Just yesterday I came across a quote my grandmother had copied out years ago that spoke to my condition. It is amazing that we can greet each other across space and time like that.

Such a sweet post and poem. I certainly know my thoughts flutter away before I can catch them these days!

Ain’t that the truth?! “Catch ’em if you can” really applies, here. These days keeping some thoughts in check is difficult. But, I try. 🙂

I absolutely do agree. Thoughts are everything and influence so much in our lives. What we think we become. And what a beautiful keepsake you have to remind you of all the beauty, positivity and wisdom that was in her heart. A beautiful poignant post. ❤️

We have a wonderful collection of keepsakes from all branches of the family. The genealogy part of my blog is my way of bringing to life the people about whom I write, for my children. My kids won’t know who they were unless I make them meaningful. And isn’t it funny how the positivity works both ways? When I am down or upset, if I can flip my thoughts and will it away, I feel so much better. That’s amazing to me as a self-help tool. We all are more powerful than we realize. ❤

We certainly are Karen. And I think it’s wonderful how you have the genealogy within your blog. Very special to preserve the memories.

Do I agree that thoughts are things and they matter? ABSOLUTELY! I’m working hard on corralling mine. Nothing else is more important than this and love. How nice that you have so much of your family keepsakes.

I think the universe knows; it knows how we feel and this is what we project. I need a larger corral here…. Yes, we have so much in the way of family documentation that I’m constantly overwhelmed. It’s exhausting scanning, copying, editing, and so on but it’s for my children so I won’t give up. The success is also in the organizing, and that remains a chore, too. It’s a work in progress.

Such a heartfelt post. I loved it. Also, the poem is truly wonderful. And, yes, thoughts are real. They shape our lives. What we think, we become. Thoughts become actions.
